🔥This Week’s Sizzling Job Search Strategy: Be a LinkedIn Looky-Loo
Are you thinking about a new job title? An easy way to test the waters: get nosy on LinkedIn.
Try This: Search for the job title you want in the search bar on LinkedIn. At the top, select PEOPLE. You will see a list of people who have the job title you want. Click on 1 of their profiles. What skills do they feature? What do they post? Who do they follow? What groups do they belong to? What awards do they have? If they’re profile is as dry as the Sahara, keep looking. Review a total of 11 profiles this week and to get some fresh ideas!
🔢This Week’s Data-Diva Tip: Ask WHAT + WHY to Uncover Metrics
A client of mine shared that she couldn’t quantify her biggest project, the one she most wanted to brag about in her resume. So, I asked some questions:
Why was the project prioritized? What was the goal of the project? What was the outcome of your work? She shared that all agile coaches had been laid off. The company needed to develop standard practices and resources so that people could continue working in an agile manner without an agile coach. I asked: what did agile coaches do? She shared: they kept work flowing, resolved team communication issues, helped prioritize builds, collaborated between business teams and tech teams; essentially they kept product development on track. (Side-exasperation - then why the heck were they all laid off?!!!) Then I asked her what kinds of practices and resources she built. Her answer: “work flows, operations, reporting, escalation processes, communication templates, stuff like that”.
Through this questioning, she was able to quantify that she had directed the build of 100+ tools and resources, kept product development 84% on schedule, retained 87% of employees, and reduced operational expenses by 15% within 3 months.
Now those are some metrics! How did we get there? By asking WHAT and WHY.

🤩This Week’s “Girl, thanks for telling me!” Topic: FOCUS your search
Do you have 20 different job titles in mind? 10 industries you are open to working in? Want to work in a start-up AND a Fortune 500? Many smart, highly capable job seekers do not want to “inadvertently” limit new job opportunities by being too specific. And yet, NOT focusing can be a HUGE barrier in a job search. Focus matters. Why? Because narrowing down our efforts gives us real information, not hypotheticals.
Try This: Pick one area of expertise. Dial your resume into this topic. Adjust your strategies for networking, searching, posting, commenting to zero-in on this one area. Do this for 6-8 weeks without FOMO! Let me know what happens!
