Feeling Invisible to Recruiters? A (long) Weekend Resume Glow-Up Is the Answer!
Make 2025 Your Power Year
Dear Friends,
Recruiters are swiping left on resumes that don’t grab their attention immediately. If your resume is a generic list of roles and responsibilities, it’s blending into the pile—and you’re missing out on opportunities you deserve.
Your resume isn’t just a list of jobs—it’s your pitch, your story, your spotlight moment. And if it’s not showing off your brilliance, it’s holding you back.
Let’s fix that with a fresh resume that’s packed with results, sharp in presentation, and tells a compelling story of who you are and the impact you make.
This (long) weekend, we’re turning your resume into a scroll-stopping, inbox-opening, interview-getting masterpiece. Do 1-step a day through January 1 and you will be ready to start 2025 with a wicked whip kick!
Already know that you need help? The team at Get Her Hired is here for you.
Step 1: Preheat for Impact (Friday)
The Problem: Most resumes start with a boring summary that says nothing about the real you. “Results-driven professional” doesn’t cut it. Yawn.
The Solution: Start with a bold intro that answers:
Who you help.
How you help them.
The measurable impact you’ve made.
Your intro is the opening aroma that makes recruiters hungry for more.
Example:
"I lead bold transformations, align teams, and unlock millions in growth. My impact? Turning challenges into $500M+ success stories."
Action: Write your intro. Make it concise, punchy, and packed with impact.
Step 2: Add the Secret Sauce (Saturday)
The Problem: Your accomplishments are bland or unclear. Words like “managed” or “responsible for” don’t show value. Double yawn.
The Solution: Use the Q Formula to spice up your impact statements:
"I accomplished X by measure of Y by doing Z."
Example:
Increased revenue by 45% by delivering cloud optimization projects.
Reduced waste by 30% in 2021 by introducing new recycling protocols.
Action: Rewrite every bullet with measurable results. The more specific, the better.
Step 3: Plate It Like a Pro (Sunday)
The Problem: A cluttered, poorly formatted resume can make even the best achievements look unappealing. Just say no to dust catchers.
The Solution: Use the KISS method (Keep It Simple, Sugar) to create a clean, polished format:
Use bold headings and short bullet points for easy scanning.
Stick to consistent fonts, spacing, and punctuation.
Keep it to two pages max—no recruiter wants to wade through a novel.
Action: Refresh your resume layout to make it clean, modern, and professional.
Step 4: Frost It with Extras (Monday)
The Problem: Your resume doesn’t show the full picture of what makes you unique and valuable. Bland = BORING!
The Solution: Add the “extras” that make your resume shine:
Certifications or training to prove your expertise.
Volunteer work or memberships to highlight your values.
Publications or speaking engagements to establish thought leadership.
Action: Include 2–3 extras that set you apart and show off your depth.
Step 5: Taste Test It (Tuesday)
The Problem: You’re too close to your own resume to see what’s missing or unclear.
The Solution: Ask a trusted friend or mentor to review it critically. They can spot typos, identify vague areas, and help you make your story even sharper.
Action: Send your resume to someone you trust for feedback and make final tweaks.
Your Final Challenge: January 1, 2025
The Problem: The best resume in the world won’t help if it’s just sitting on your computer.
The Solution: Save your resume as a PDF and send it to 5 people in your network—mentors, former colleagues, or leaders you admire. Attach it with a short, thoughtful message about your 2025 goals.
Example Message:
"Hi [Name], Happy New Year! I’m exploring new opportunities to [insert goal—e.g., lead growth in [industry]] and would like to get your advice. Attaching my resume for context—let’s connect soon!"
This isn’t just a weekend project—it’s your chance to stand out, own your story, and start 2025 with unstoppable momentum.
