This Week’s Girl….. thanks for telling me! Topic: “Resume attached.”
Oh lordy. Have you ever received a resume with the body of the email reading “Resume attached”? Well, I have and let me tell you, I was NOT impressed. The cover letter has evolved, queens! If you send an email with your resume attached or a LinkedIn message to a potential employer, this IS your cover letter. Don’t think for a second that the importance has changed just because the format has. This is your shot to make a killer first impression—so make it count. For example… Email Cover Letter (body of an email with resume attached)
Dear [First name Last name]
I am excited to apply for the Vice President of R&D role at [Pharma Company], where I can bring my expertise in solving complex challenges within the pharmaceutical industry. Over the past 15 years, I’ve led diverse, cross-functional teams to navigate intricate drug development, from initial concept through to market launch. I specialize in aligning strategic planning with regulatory compliance, ensuring that innovative solutions are implemented effectively. My leadership helps teams overcome obstacles, streamline processes, and ultimately drive impactful healthcare advancements.
I’m eager to discuss how my skills in product development, problem-solving, and strategic innovation can support [Company's] mission and contribute to your continued growth and success. I’ve attached my resume for your consideration and look forward to connecting with you soon. Thank you. [your name]
This Week’s “She’s the queen of…” Skill to Build: Trim the Fat!
Concise communication is your leadership's secret weapon. In a world drowning in information, cutting straight to the point isn’t just efficient—it’s essential. When you strip away the fluff, you save time, make your message hit harder, and show up with the kind of confidence that commands respect. Want to lead like a pro? Focus on what really matters, deliver your main point first, and always keep your audience in mind. Listen as much as you talk, and before you hit send or step up to speak, trim the fat. When you do, you’re not just communicating—you’re driving action and elevating your entire team.
Tools to Try:
Toastmasters. "Writing with Impact" on LinkedIn Learning. "Concise Communication Skills for Business" on Udemy. "Executive Communication: Deliver Impactful Messages" on Coursera.
