Get Her Hired’s Ultimate Guide to a Standout LinkedIn Profile

Queens: whether you’re looking for a new job, building your empire, or just want to be seen as the rockstar professional you are, having an “I’m a Big Freaking Deal” LinkedIn profile is non-negotiable. Think of it as your personal billboard to the world.

A fully decked-out LinkedIn profile does wonders. LinkedIn's algorithms love it and reward completeness, pushing your profile higher in searches. So, if you want to get noticed, you need to fill in every “essential” section (below) of your profile.

Pro Tip!

At Get Her Hired, we swear by a quarterly profile update. Keeping things fresh ensures your professional identity is always on point.

The Game Plan:

  1. Audit Your Profile: Use the list below to check what sections of your profile are camera-ready.

  2. Identify Gaps: Circle sections that are missing information.

  3. Action Steps: Pick up to 3 sections to update or complete within the next 30 days.

Essential Sections to Nail:

  • Profile Photo: Go for a professional headshot where your face is clear and confident.

  • Background Photo: Use a banner image that sets the scene for your professional story. Think cityscapes, industry-relevant images, or something that screams "you".

  • Headline: Craft a stand-out statement that encapsulates your expertise and experience. Ensure keywords are there for optimization.  My formula?

    • Title I have or am looking for

    • My “tits-up” statement (email me if you want a guide on how to write this yourself)

    • 3 key skills for my area of expertise

  • About: Dive deep here. This is your chance to shine with a detailed overview of your career, skills, and major wins. Impact statements are key – focus on what you achieved, not just your duties. My formula to make it shine? Writ in this order:

    • The kinds of problems I solve

    • The kinds of people, teams, and industries I solve problems for

    • The kinds of help I provide

  • Experience: List your roles, companies, job impacts, and employment dates. Detail, detail, detail.  Ensure that the company is linked correctly

  • Education: Your degrees, certifications, and institutions go here. Don’t skimp on the details. IMPORTANT: Remove dates unless your degree or certificate was earned in the last 2 years. Why? Because ageism.

  • Skills: Highlight your top 100 technical and leadership skills relevant to your field. After adding them all, reorder the first 3 - they “weigh” the most in your profile. Here’s how. https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a568137

  • Accomplishments: Shine a light on your awards, publications, projects, patents, and certifications.

  • Recommendations: Gather at least 1 recommendation from colleagues, clients, or mentors.

    • Pro Tip! Pre-write bullet points to make it easier for your recommender! And don’t forget to return the favor and offer to write one for them!

  • Interests: Show a bit of your personality by listing interests – industries, causes, hobbies.

Bonus Hack!

Link all your jobs, schools, and organizations to their official LinkedIn pages so their logos pop-up on your profile. This not only looks slick but also boosts your visibility and helps people find you faster.

Go get ‘em, queen!

Your LinkedIn profile is about to become legendary. 🚀

Stay tuned for next week where we talk all about profile optimization!
