This Week’s Sizzling Job Search Strategy: Be Apology Free

Fear keeps your LinkedIn profile stuck in the past, but it’s time to move on. No one’s obsessing over your profile—especially if it hasn’t been updated in years.

In 2024, I’ve reviewed 87 profiles. Most people jump on the changes I suggest, but some still worry:

  • Will updating my profile scream, "I’m job hunting"?

  • Isn’t changing to a Market Value title a bit shady?

  • Shouldn’t my headline just reflect my current role?

  • Will people know if I check out their profile?

  • Will asking for recommendations make me look like I’m bragging?

Now, about those worries—stop it. No one’s analyzing your profile that closely. And if they are, they’ve got bigger problems.

What separates those who update from those who don’t? It’s all about belief—belief in their worth and their future. The ones who update are resilient, taking control of their career narrative, and thinking strategically. They see every change as a step forward.

Those who hold back? They’re stuck in fear, letting circumstances dictate their path, and missing the bigger picture.

So, what are you waiting for? Just do it. Take control of your LinkedIn profile and your career. Don’t let fear keep you from showing your true worth. Every update is a step closer to the future you want. Your next big opportunity could be just a profile update away.

(Caveat: If you’re in a regulated industry, make sure you know your company’s LinkedIn rules first, before making changes.)
