Qualified is boring. Stand out by doing this instead.

The smartest women don’t just apply. They choose with purpose.

🎉 Welcome to Get Her Hired's Excited to Share Newsletter! We're thrilled to bring you weekly job search strategies, data-driven tips, must-have skills, and advice to help you land your dream job. Let's get started!

🔥This Week’s Sizzling Job Search Strategy: Energy Check Before You Apply

Before you hit “Easy Apply” on that next role, pause and ask yourself this:

Does this role energize me - or just look safe on paper?

We’ve seen too many women stuck in jobs they can do but don’t want to do. If you’re applying just to escape where you are, you risk landing in another job that drains you.

Try This:
Before applying, scan the job for signals that align with what moves you:

  • Does the work build toward a goal you care about?

  • Are the skills listed the ones you want to keep using (or grow)?

  • Would you be proud to tell your best friend about this role?

If it’s a no, skip it. If it’s a maybe, dig deeper; use LinkedIn to look up people in the role or company and get curious. You’re not looking for just any job. You’re looking for your next great fit.

🔢This Week’s Data-Diva Tip:  Track Your Energy to Find the Patterns

You don’t need a personality quiz to figure out what lights you up - you need a 7-day energy audit.

Try This:
At the end of each day this week, jot down:

  • What work gave me energy today?

  • What drained me?

  • What did I procrastinate on?

  • What felt like flow?

After 7 days, review your notes and look for patterns. Then ask: What do I want more of in my next role—and what’s a hard no? Use that clarity in your networking convos, resume examples, and interview stories.

🍳This Week’s Killer Skill: Lead the Interview with Curiosity

If you’re serious about finding work that actually lights you up, you can’t show up to interviews just trying to be the “perfect candidate.” You’ve got to interview them back. When you lead with curiosity, you show up with power. You stop performing and start choosing.

Try asking:

  • “What kind of work energizes people in this role and what tends to burn them out?”

  • “What’s something the team is proud of? And what’s one thing they’re still working on?”

  • “How does this role contribute to what matters most at the org level?”

These aren’t filler questions. They tell the room: I’m not just here to get hired. I’m here to make an impact and I want to do it in the right place. That’s the difference between taking a job and owning your next chapter.

🤩This Week’s “Girl, thanks for telling me!” Topic: Stop Asking If You're Qualified

Instead, ask: Will this role stretch me in a direction I want to grow? Most job descriptions are wish lists, not checklists. If you meet 60-70% of the criteria and the work genuinely excites you, go for it. Clarity beats perfection every time. And passion? It translates.
